01Where it goes wrong
Where business internet lets you down
When the internet stops, so do your phones, Teams and cloud systems. These are the problems we are called in to fix most often.
- 01
One nbn service and no backup
When it drops, the whole office waits on the carrier's fault process with no way to keep working.
FixA second connection on a different technology, such as 4G or 5G, that takes over automatically when the main link fails.
- 02
Several carriers and nobody in charge
Each site was set up at a different time, so nobody has a full list of services, speeds or contract end dates.
FixOne partner that orders, manages and escalates every service, with a single register of what you have and when each contract ends.
- 03
Teams calls break up in the afternoon
The link is busy with uploads, backups and updates, and voice traffic waits its turn.
FixThe right upload speed for the site and quality of service settings that put calls first.
- 04
Fibre is in the street but not in the office
Many businesses never check whether their building can move to business grade fibre or what it would cost.
FixWe check your address for nbn Enterprise Ethernet and other fibre options as part of the review.

Business nbn, fibre or 5G: the right link for each site
Most offices need a main link and a backup. nbn says around 1.6 million Australian business locations have the option to upgrade to Enterprise Ethernet, its business fibre service.
| Compare | Business nbnStandard fixed line | Enterprise Ethernetnbn business fibre | 4G or 5GMobile network |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Small offices and branches | Offices that run on cloud systems, video and large files | Backup links, temporary sites and places fixed lines do not reach |
| Upload speed | Lower than download on most plans | Symmetrical, with wholesale speed tiers up to nearly 10Gbps | Varies with signal and network load |
| Cost to connect | Depends on the premises and plan | No upfront build cost in nbn Business Fibre Zones, with exclusions. Elsewhere it depends on location and the work involved | Hardware and a data plan |
| How we usually use it | Main link for small sites, backup for larger ones | Main link for head offices and busy sites | Automatic backup behind either |
Swipe the table sideways to compare all three.
The nbn offer of no upfront build cost does not cover every premises or connection type, and build costs can apply depending on location and complexity. We confirm what applies to your address during the review.

04Joining your sites
SD-WAN and MPLS: connecting offices and sites
Once you have more than one site, the question is how they reach each other and your cloud systems. There are three common answers, and many networks end up using two of them together.
| Compare | Site to site VPNOver the internet | SD-WANSeveral links, one network | MPLSPrivate carrier network |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it works | An encrypted tunnel between sites over ordinary internet links | Two or more links at each site, with traffic steered to the healthiest one by application | A private network run by the carrier, separate from the internet |
| Best for | Two small sites and a handful of remote staff | Several sites on cloud systems, video and voice | Sites that need steady performance for large files, imaging or older systems |
| When a link fails | The tunnel drops until the link returns | Traffic moves to the other link in seconds | Depends on the backup the carrier provides |
| Voice and video | Shares the link with everything else | Calls and Teams meetings given priority on the best path | Consistent, with quality of service set by the carrier |
| Management | Set up on each firewall | One console for every site, managed by us | Changes go through the carrier |
| Cost | Lowest | Moderate, and often less than MPLS once links are combined | Highest, with longer contracts |
Swipe the table sideways to compare all three.
Several links working as one
SD-WAN combines an nbn service, enterprise ethernet fibre and a 4G or 5G link at each site into one network. It watches every link and sends each type of traffic down the one performing best, so a busy upload does not break up a Teams call and a failed link does not stop the office.
SuitsBusinesses with two or more sites, or a head office that cannot afford to go offline.
A private network between sites
MPLS is a private network the carrier runs between your offices and data centres, kept apart from the internet. It is predictable, which is why mining, engineering and medical imaging sites still use it for large files. Many businesses now keep MPLS for those sites and add SD-WAN over internet links everywhere else.
SuitsRemote and regional sites, and systems that need the same performance every hour of the day.
05How it works
From site review to monitored links
You get a written recommendation before anything is ordered, and we deal with the carriers from there.
- Step 1
Site review
We look at your current links, contracts, outage history, what runs over the connection and whether fibre is available. You get a plan and a fixed quote.
- Step 2
Design
A main and backup link for each site, the router and firewall to go with them and SD-WAN where you have more than one link or site.
- Step 3
Order and install
We order with the carrier, book the installation and chase every appointment, so your office manager does not have to.
- Step 4
Cut over and monitor
The new link runs alongside the old one until we switch after hours. From then on we monitor it and raise faults with the carrier for you.

09Questions
Business internet questions
What businesses ask before changing their links. Anything else, call 1300 787 429.
01What is the difference between business nbn and home nbn?
The connection to your building can be the same. The difference is the plan and the support behind it: business plans can include static IP addresses, business support and faster fault restoration options, depending on the carrier and plan. We match the plan to how much the site depends on its link.
02Can we get fibre to our building, and what does it cost?
Often, yes. nbn says around 1.6 million business locations can upgrade to Enterprise Ethernet, and in its Business Fibre Zones there is no upfront build cost, with some premises and connection types excluded. Elsewhere the cost depends on your location and the work involved. We check your address and show you the options.
03Do we need a backup connection?
If your phones, Teams or cloud systems stop when the internet stops, yes. A 4G or 5G service behind your main link is the usual answer, and it takes over automatically. Larger sites often add a second fixed link from a different carrier, with SD-WAN managing both.
04What does business internet cost, and what contract terms apply?
It depends on the site, the technology and the speed, so you get a fixed quote before we start. Carrier terms vary: some services are month to month, while dedicated fibre usually comes with a longer term. Every carrier term is shown in the quote.
05How long does a new connection take, and will we lose internet during the switch?
Lead times depend on the carrier and the technology, and a fibre build takes longer than a service on an existing connection. We run the new link alongside the old one and switch over after hours, so staff arrive to a working office.
06We already have an IT person and a carrier account. Why go through you?
Because orders and faults eat time. We deal with the carriers, monitor your links on our managed plans and raise faults for you. Your IT person keeps full visibility and gets their time back for the work only they can do.
